We spent 10 incredible days on safari in Tanzania, and one of the biggest reasons the experience was so special was our guide, Silva.
His knowledge of Tanzania’s wildlife, plant life and culture was incredible, and he always took the time to share what he knew and help us understand and appreciate everything we were seeing. But what really made Silva stand out was that he became so much more than just our guide. We had so much fun with him, laughed a lot, and genuinely enjoyed spending our days together. He made the entire experience feel personal and unforgettable.

Meru Slopes - 8-day Serena experience package ☆☆☆☆☆
We had Juma as our driver and couldn't rate him highly enough. He got us into the best places for the best photos, even staying longer than other cars for us to watch the animals, he also gave us the flexibility of start times and what to do each day. You tell Juma what you want and he'll cater for it. He answered our questions about all sorts of topics and was very informative each time. He got us back to the hotel / destination at the best times of day or if we were late it was for good reason to see more animals, which we had specifically asked for. The car had WiFi, electric to charge the phones and camera if necessary, a well stocked fridge (plenty of water, coca cola, wine and beer) and a lift up roof, typical for all land cruisers, for the best viewing abilities but also incredibly safe - like watching elephants walk past the back of the car the same height as you stood up viewing through the top.
Meru Slopes were quick to respond with our initial enquiries and communicated well via WhatsApp in the lead up to the trip. Leonard and the team happily confirmed payment for us as we were paying internationally and were very understanding when it took a few days for the money to wire via multiple international banks. The team arranged hotel/airport transfers for the first and last days and Leonard met us at our hotel the evening before the tour and gave us a full briefing, confirmed the itinerary etc and then again on the last evening to ensure we had a good overall trip.
We specifically booked the Serena package as it gave us very well priced access to Tarangire National Park, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro crater. We saw all of the Big 5 on multiple occasions across the locations and so much more. Whilst that's not always guaranteed (especially for Leopards and Black Rhino) Juma was listening on the radio and searching all the time for us to see them and it paid off - more than once! The four Serena hotels/lodges were as expected from the photos and reviews seen online, with us rating the Serengeti Lodge the best of the four, but all have their each unique qualities. Make the most of the heated pool in Lake Manyara though!

An unforgettable Tanzania safari with Eco Life and an outstanding guide
We had a truly wonderful safari experience with Eco Life Tours & Safaris, and almost everything that had been agreed in advance was delivered very well.
From the booking process to the actual safari, the itinerary, accommodations, private vehicle, domestic flight and overall arrangements were all handled professionally. We had spent quite a lot of time discussing the details before the trip, and it was reassuring to see that the commitments in our agreement were carried out properly once we arrived in Tanzania.
A very special part of the experience was our guide, Simon. He was not only an excellent driver and wildlife guide, but also incredibly knowledgeable, patient and enthusiastic throughout the journey. With his help, we saw all of the African Big Five and identified more than 60 different animal species. We learned a huge amount about animal behavior, the ecosystem and the Serengeti during our time together.
The wildlife experiences were far beyond what we had expected. We were lucky enough to witness two wildebeest river crossings during the Great Migration. What impressed us just as much was watching the behavior before the crossing — thousands of wildebeest and zebras hesitating at the riverbank, waiting and watching, and at one point seeing a single wildebeest finally gather the courage to cross alone.
We also saw more than 100 lions during the trip and witnessed some extraordinary scenes: a lion hunt that failed, a group of 11 lions successfully surrounding and hunting an antelope, lions confronting buffalo and eventually giving up, and a leopard resting high in a tree while preparing for its next hunt. These were moments that are almost impossible to describe and will stay with us for a very long time.
What made the safari especially memorable was that it was not simply about seeing animals. Simon helped us understand what we were seeing — why animals behaved in certain ways, how predators hunt, how different species interact, and how the migration works. That made the experience much richer.
We came back from Tanzania with thousands of photos, many unforgettable memories, and a much deeper appreciation for African wildlife.
We would happily recommend Eco Life Tours & Safaris, especially for travelers who want a well-organized private safari and a knowledgeable guide who genuinely loves wildlife.

Masai Mesmerising Mara with Axis Safari
