Very nice and cost-effective
The itinerary was well-planned, with two days spent on the grasslands before returning to the city to rest. Most of the budget accommodations were quite good, but a few lacked hot water for showers at night, possibly due to the grassland environment. The highlights: Our Kenyan guide, Gelbert, was excellent! Very professional, he led us in animal searches from dawn till dusk, making the Kenyan trip perfect. The only minor drawback was the daily lunchboxes; I felt they could have offered some variety, especially the roasted chicken leg, which became a bit repetitive after a while. Otherwise, I think it was excellent for a high-value tour. David, the main person in charge, was particularly helpful, closely monitoring our itinerary, communicating quickly, and promptly resolving any issues we encountered and meeting our needs. The people here are amazing, and had great hospitality. We were so comfortable and everything was better than expected. Amazing and warm people, great food, beautiful place and good lodges. Mellivora African Travels offered us me and my husband a 5 days safari, we really enjoyed the safari and how everything was made easy for us from communication to the booking. Fransisca was fast and easy to get to anytime we emailed and got in contact she would be there to respond. Our guide Efata was amazing he knew about nature and gave us a wonderful experience and we saw a lot of animals. Accommodation offered was amazing and everything about the tour was memorable we loved everything about it. Whenever Fransisca is there to serve you just be sure everything will be fine and hope for the great adventure. I recommend Mellivora African Travels for anyone hoping to get a great experience.

Cynthia was very patient and answered all our questions before and during the trip. Our guides, Jack and Sir Charles, were friendly and knowledgeable about the animals and pointed them out along the way. We stuck with Sir Charles for our trip because he took us to our camp separate from the group every night. He has 16 years experience and it showed. His eagle eyes and connections put us on the hottest spots and his foresight put us in the best position to get great views of animals on the move. While other vehicles lingered for photos he would leave before anyone and put us right next to the action anticipating the animal’s moves before they made them. We had a cheetah and multiple lions pass within a couple feet of our vehicle. One male lion even decided to rest in the shade of our Land Cruiser! We saw the big five, the big nine, and the ugly five. We saw a river crossing where a lion was waiting on the other side for unsuspecting wild-a-beasts! We even saw the elusive rhino and leopard! Every day got better and better thanks to Sir Charles and Jack. Even more impressive was that our masterfully driven Land Cruiser was stick-shift! Asante Sana, Sir Charles!
Axis accommodated 4 of us in our group of 14 that chose cheaper lodging. We opted for the budget accommodations and they were great! We stayed at Wild Nest Mara Camp and our tent came with two beds, a bathroom, and a shower. One day it rained particularly hard causing an electricity broken out. Generator power was on but would shut off after midnight. They approached me knowing I used a Cpap for sleeping. I mentioned I had a battery backup that would last 3 hours so they only shut off generator power for 3 hours. Breakfast, boxed lunch, and dinner were provided for us daily and were a mix of African offerings and tourist-friendly options. Thanks Wild Nest!
Overall, this was a trip of a lifetime that we won’t soon forget. Thanks to everyone at Axis Africa Expeditions & Safaris for such a great experience with family and friends! Highly recommend this great company!
Edna & Team are Excellent Every Step of The Way.
Spearman helped my wife and I organize our honeymoon to the Masai Mara in July 2026 including two nights in Nairobi and two at the Mara Engai Lodge. Before the trip, Edna was always very prompt and communicative in helping us plan our itinerary including a wonderful day to get adjusted in Nairobi. She was more than happy to share paperwork that helped us get comfortable with booking including the TRA License. Additionally, the rates Edna was able to secure on lodging were often better than what we could get ourselves. On the trip, Enda and team really went above and beyond to take care of everything along our itinerary including several last minute changes. Our guide, Joseph chased down a rogue baboon that had taken our passport in Nairobi and recovered it, saving our trip in the process, and Edna was able to recommend plenty of delicious local spots to eat that took us a little off of tourist the beaten path. When we needed to make a stop before our return flight to replace some eye glasses, Edna's team helped us make it happen. Beyond that, every place that Edna and team recommended for lodging had really top quality service. Edna arranged several special touches including special honeymoon decor, romantic bush dinners and sundowners just for my wife and I that made the trip extra special.
Our only regrets from the trip are that we could not have gone for longer and that we did not bring enough cash to tip all of the wonderful people we encountered on the trip as much as we might have liked. I consider myself very confident at planning international travel and do not believe I could have executed nearly as high quality a trip as Edna and team put together. They gave us luxury at a very reasonable price.
