Kruger park doesn't have the same bush ibe as e.g. camping in Moremi or Chobe in Botswana because it is so easy to self drive. But it does have a lot of great wildlife (which can also be a challenge to see because of the thick scrub. I really loved combining the safari element with other wildlife activities such as diving (Mozambique), birding (e.g. penguins at Betty's bay and pelagic seabirds), whale watching (hermanus), sightseeing (Blyde river and Cape town) and shark diving around the cape.

OK, I was a tourist but in Krüger I felt like a tourist, a longer stay, which I could no way afford, far to pricey!! may have changed my view but I doubt it.

I would not say Kruger is particularly beautiful, it's very scrubby which makes the prolific wildlife often difficult to see. Perhaps the North is more scenic. Bush vibe hindered by tar raods and the self drive aspect, but this also makes the park very economical to visit. Saw some good birds, especially around Berg En Dal.

The scenic beauty of the different areas is fantastic and unique, the people are very friendly! But increase of population and prosperity cause the decrease of nature and wildlife!

Lovely wildlife in great scenery. And great beaches, incl. off the beaten track. Unfortunately the more popular place are becoming very expensive.

Between 2009 and 2012 we had six gamedrives in Solio and it was always like coming home! Nature and wildlife at its best, very few tourists and excellent accommodations. For a luxury stay you can choose the Solio Lodge in the park, we preferred the normal priced Rhino Watch Safari Lodge 3 km beside. From Solio it´s only one hour drive to Mt. Kenya, the Aberdares or Ol Pejeta Conservancy. The climate at 1800m is very moderate throughout the whole year. That´s also a reason for a big variety of natural goods and very tasty food! The guides at the parks were best educated to explain the wildlife and well trained to find the animals.
We enjoyed every single trip and surely will come back!

Sometimes it´s hard to find the animals in this large area, but the scenic beauty of the different landscapes is breath-taking!!

Spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and huge herds of elephants are worth a visit, but after a long dry period the ecosystem is out of balance!

Beautiful lake with a spectacular flamingo scenery and many other animals (no elephants), but often very crowded!

Paradise at Lake Turkana
Overall rating
4/5

A magic place at Lake Turkana: Eliya Springs. After quite a rough 1.5 hr trip from Lodwar, the arrival at Lake Turkana is amazing. A few (in 2009 still only 1) beautiful Turkana style hut, with nicely decorated facilities and a great double bed with a magic view over Lake Turkana and its sunset. All placed on the Lake Turkana beach. Yes a real beach that can easily match the famous Diana beaches in quality of sand and views. The place is surrounded by beautiful massive sand dunes. Strolling along the shore gets you to great encounters with very friendly local fishermen. The lodge has its own hot water spring, that makes a great warm water swimming pool. The food in the lodge is basic but tasteful, enjoyed in a simple hut on plastic chairs, the real Turkana way. And they have cold beers!
The best of all are the nights, where one should enjoy laying on the beach and, on one of the many clear sky nights, watch the most beautiful star-lit skies one will ever see in his/her lifetime.
