Our gorilla and chimpanzee experiences were amazing and we had fabulous views of the primates. The hotels were awesome. Gorilla Bluff was peaceful and the wonderful staff were personal and attentive. Shout out to Duncan. Turcaco treetops was beautiful with awesome amenities.
Our guide James was the perfect fit for us and we enjoyed his knowledge and friendship. Thank you to Nicholas for setting us up with this wonderful adventure.

Great guides for herping (reptiles)
5/5

I had a great 3 days herping with Alphar’s team of guides. Isborne was my lead guide and he was very likeable and took care of everything. I found almost my entire wish list of species in 3 days and can highly recommend using them for your herping trips.

5/5

We had a great experience with Luna’s Wild Rides. They organized our transfer from the hotel to the airport, and everything was perfect. The driver was very professional and friendly, the car was clean and comfortable, and the service was absolutely punctual. The whole transfer went smoothly, without any problems at all.

I can confidently recommend this company. Anastasia, the owner, is incredibly kind and helpful — she pays attention to every detail and truly does her best to make your stay as pleasant and stress-free as possible.

A friendly intercultural experience
5/5

t was a special three days, as I was able to visit the homes of ethnic minorities with their unique culture and also witness the Hamar people's bull-jumping ceremony. I'm grateful to our guide, Reshid, for all his consideration. The tour started and ended in Arba Minch instead of Jinka, which made for a long drive, and I was quite tired, but it was great to see the cows and goats crowding the road and the daily life along the road.

Great experience
5/5

We did the 1 day gorilla trek in Bwindi NP from Kigali. It was a 4 hour drive each way with made the day long but it’s well worth it to be able to trek for the mountain gorillas. Being able to do it in 1 day from Kigali was convenient for us as we didn’t have to spend a few days making out own way to where the trek begins in Uganda. Got some fantastic photos of the mountain gorillas. And our driver/ guide for the day, Alex was very helpful and fun.

A top rate tour operator made our trip 5 stars
5/5

My husband and I wanted to visit Rwanda to see the gorillas, monkeys, and explore the country. After much research, we found New Horizon Africa Safaris. We contacted Emmanuel and told him what we wanted to see, and asked him to suggest any additional places we shouldn’t miss while in Rwanda. He provided a thoughtful list of destinations and experiences, and we quickly agreed on the perfect itinerary.

Booking with New Horizon Africa Safaris was an exceptional experience from the very beginning. Their website is easy to navigate, beautifully organized, and made planning our trip effortless. Communication was prompt, friendly, and incredibly professional — every question we had was answered clearly and quickly.

Emmanuel, our tour leader, was outstanding. He answered all of our questions in advance and made sure our 10 days were packed with unforgettable experiences. His professionalism, deep knowledge of Rwanda’s wildlife, landscapes, and culture, and his warm, engaging personality made every moment special. Emmanuel’s attention to detail, patience, and ability to anticipate our needs elevated the entire journey. He created an atmosphere that was both adventurous and incredibly comfortable, and his passion for sharing Africa’s beauty was truly inspiring.

New Horizon Africa Safaris delivers outstanding service, customized itineraries, and an authentic, thoughtful approach to travel — and Emmanuel truly embodies all of these qualities. I couldn’t imagine a better guide or a more memorable experience.

Highly recommended for anyone dreaming of a once-in-a-lifetime Rwandan adventure.

Our tour guide, Dalson, started as our guide and became our friend.
5/5

In September, 2025, we finally had the opportunity to experience Africa. It was definitely a long time dream. Our trip included time in Tanzania and Uganda. While in Uganda, we had Dalson as our guide. Our activities included safaris through a few different parks, including, Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, and Mauro. We also visited the Zika Rhino Sanctuary, and did Chimp trekking in Kibale and Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi. I was fortunate enough to have a close encounter with a chimp who wanted to play, though I know that isn’t the norm, and will forever remember it. We also visited Bigodi Swamp and the local community. Every moment was amazing. Every time we started the day we could see the wildlife at a distance, but somehow the day always ended with the experience up close. Our guide seemed eagle eyed because he caught sight of everything and got us as close as we could each time. We even got up close to the elusive leopard and somehow he spotted a dung beetle crossing our path, which are definitely fun to se at work. Faldo helped us feel safe and taken care of the whole time. Uganda made up 10 days of our journey, so it was a lot of time spent together. I highly recommend Dalson for your trip if looking at Uganda, or anywhere else they can take you.

Alphar is simply the best
5/5

If you are a herping fanatic like myself, do not come to Africa with unrealistic expectations. Unlike in the neotropics or SE Asia, you will not find tallies of 20+ snake species over 1-2 week stay. Searching for reptiles in tropical Africa is tough work because of the thick terrain, some species are illusive and on the whole reptiles are thin on the ground. Alphar regularly and succinctly reminded us of this fact via his catchphrase: 'We can not dictate nature'. If you are thinking: 'This sounds like a faff, why bother?'; I can assure you, what Uganda lacks in quantity, it more than makes up for in quality.

Simply put, Alphar and his team at Herping Tour Safaris provide you with the best chance of finding some of Uganda's iconic reptiles. He and his guides are extremely skilled and have unsurpassed local knowledge. What's more, I found their commitment levels to be outstanding (e.g. Alphar was 15 metres up a tree before I knew it to collect a Jameson's mamba!?).

I would also be doing a disservice by not mentioning aspects away from the dense jungles and swampland. All the local guides we used (William, Charles, Nicolas, Patrick, Pato, Brite and Brian) were all very friendly and very attentive even to my broader interests e.g. insects. Joan was good vibes and helped things run smoothly. Last, but not least, Alphar was simply the best guide I have experienced. He was extremely optimistic and friendly, if we needed anything he would arrange for it, no matter how small. Wherever we went, Alphar garnered a great deal of respect from locals, hotel staff etc and I can totally see why. Simply put, he somehow managed to simultaneously be a professional tour operator and a friend.

During our tour we managed to see 7 species of snake, which was very lucky. These included my 3 top targets: Rhinoceros viper, Atheris hispida and Gaboon viper. We also greatly enjoyed Chimp trekking and shoebill watching! Thanks for everything Alphar and Herping Tour Safaris, it is less of a case of 'if' we will come back and more a question of 'when?'.
