I cannot say enough amazing things about working with Lauren Barnard and the Ker & Downey Africa Team. It was truly the most incredible trip and Lauren made that possible for us.
While I consider myself a planner, my husband is more go with the flow, so we found ourselves incredibly behind in planning our honeymoon. It seemed impossible to pull off honestly. We then found Ker & Downey Africa on Google and reached out. Lauren responded quickly and didn’t seem phased by our short notice. I think perhaps she remained calm for my benefit, although it had to add stress to her plate. Lauren designed the most incredible itinerary. She made it seem possible, and not only that, but one thousand times more amazing than anything I could pull off. She was such a calm presence throughout the process. She met on multiple zoom calls with me, each lasting over an hour. She answered every question with patience, optimism, and professionalism.
However, I won’t lie, it was pretty nerve wracking when it came time to pay. Here we were about to send a large wire transfer to a company we randomly found on Google. Were we crazy? We couldn’t find many reviews, other than their website, and it was scary to take that leap of faith.
That fear was quieted once we touched down in South Africa. We were in a fairy tale for the next two weeks, a dream that Lauren had brought to fruition. Here I was getting to experience the most spectacular trip I have ever taken. We stayed at the most beautiful places; luxurious, wild, and perfect. The hospitality of everyone we met is truly unmatched, a hospitality that I hoped to bring back home. We ate wonderful food, often more than we should have. We experienced so many different aspects of South Africa, and fell in love with the country more with each stop. It’s hard to express the awe I hold for this trip, even after returning home. Honestly, all words fall short of what this trip was to us. Without a doubt, I will use Ker & Downey Africa whenever I can plan another trip to Africa, and I would encourage everyone else to as well!

Me and my family have traveled several times with Viatu, and it has always been smooth and fulfilling all expectations. This time I went with a group of friends, and it was equally lovely. Wonderful experience from start to finish.
We had the best family holiday (parents and two kids in their 20s) organised by GoGiraffe. Luice was always available throughout the entire booking process and was on hand to answer all queries. He provided very clear information and options for different budgets and his recommendations for lodges were perfect for our needs.
Our tour guide Mgona was absolutely fantastic, he knew so much about all the parks, animals and birds and was a very safe driver. He was often the first to spot animals which meant we got to experience the wildebeest migration in Serengeti without any other jeeps around for approx 30 minutes, as well as an elephant parade in Tarangire completely on our own. He was very committed to making sure we enjoyed every second of the safari.

Friendly and accessible
We went with Snorkling Zanzibar Tours on a Spice Tour, everything went smooth except for the rain. We had a nice tour and ended our tour with a lovely spicy lunch, accompanied by a lot of fruit and different spiced Tea’s.

Megan arranged every single detail for our 10 day Kenyan Safari visiting Nairobi, Diani Beach and the Masa Mara. Over the 15 months of planning our bucket list trip of a lifetime, Megan was extremely polite, professional and so kind in all of her communications and arrangements with us. I can't recommend her more highly. Everything went very smoothly. The ground and air transfers were top notch and the Hotel/Resort staff were absolutely amazing at every destination, making our vacation even more incredible. At every destination we thought 'surely this is as good as it gets', and then the next destination was even better. I haven't even started with the food and Safari tours...amazing! If you're going on Safari, do the Hot Air Balloon trip as well...more amazing moments!

Our tour guides were knowledgeable, engaging, entertaining, personable and expertly led our safari.
We had the pleasure of spending two days with Alpha and David while on safari in Maasai Mara National Reserve. They were both excellent guides who shared their years of expertise. I was extremely impressed with their concern for ethical guiding and recognizing that we are visitors to the Reserve. Alpha and David went above and beyond to ensure that we witnessed every animal in the reserve while enthusiastically sharing their extensive knowledge, making the experience truly remarkable. Thanks to David and Alpha's exceptional efforts, this trip surpassed my expectations.

Epic trip of a lifetime!
We went with Great Escape Trails based on a friend's recommendation and what a wonderful decision that turned out to be!
Thom was very proactive and accommodative with all the pre-travel arrangements from the start, and gave us a fantastic guide Cornel. We were a group of 2 couples flying in from different countries, he made sure to engage all of us and understand our different objectives. First and foremost, his ability and instinct to spot animals is unbelievable. He was able to see animals from a massive distance, much faster and clearer than us even with binoculars! We managed to catch the wildebeasts crossing the Mara River three times, twice of which we were first to the scene before all the other safari vehicles arrived thanks to Cornel's fantastic intuition. As a result, we had really awesome front row seats to what is aptly coined 'the greatest show on earth'. Secondly, he drives really well and made us as comfortable as possible on the bumpy and dusty roads in the bushes. Lastly, his easy going personality and excellent command of English made him a joy to be around for 7 days and he is always sensitive to our needs.
Truly, we cannot thank Cornel enough for making all our dreams come true! Do not be put off by their lower number of reviews, while they are a smaller company they really go the extra mile to earn your trust. Great Escape Trails was a gem find for us and we would strongly endorse them without any hesitation at all. For future visitors, we wish you a fabulous trip. Enjoy!!
