Amazing, smooth, painfree and unforgettable experience!
5/5

I was visiting Zanzibar for work initially (solo traveler) and, despite a tight schedule, I thought it would be a shame to travel all the way from London to East Africa and miss out on a once in a lifetime experience.

I started looking at safari prices and most of them were very dear or complicated to organise. I came across Faustin Tours randomly as I landed on safaribookings.com. My requirements were simple: I wanted to do a 3 day long safari in the middle of my Zanzibar business trip, I wanted all the meals to be included and ideally was looking for something that would cost me less than $1000.

Willst other tour operators seem to charge a fortune without the meals to be included, I sent a quote request to Faustin Tours for a private safari, and Faustin, the owner, happened to reply within 10 minutes. He was extremely kind and sent me a quote and after kindly asking where i would come from (directly from London or from the continent) explained that he could arrange for a taxi to pick me up from my Zanzibar hotel and to take me to the airport and back.

Faustin was extremely nice, easy going, very patient and super quick to reply (expect a reply within 20 minutes!) even advised me on which plane to take from Zanzibar to Dar Es Salaam.

After agreeing on everything, I was sent an invoice and requested to pay a 50% deposit via bank transfer.

I arrived in Zanzibar at the end of October 2017 and my safari started on November 6th. Faustin kindly got in touch with me 2 days before the trip, asking whether I had landed safely, and for address and pick up details.

The day of the trip, my flight was at 6:30 and departing from Zanzibar airport. Faustin’s driver picked me up at 4:30 from my Makundunchi hotel and we drove for just over an hour. I arrived at the hotel on time for my flight. The flight from Zanzibar to Dar is a 18 minute flight, and I paid just over $130 (I didn’t want to deal with all the ferry hustle and bustle).
Faustin himself picked me up, and after introducing me to my driver, he explained that I would be alone for the safari! AMAAAAAZING! It would be the driver, the guide and I!
We sorted out the invoicing and I paid the remaining balance, and here began my trip with Johnny, the driver. The trip from Dar to Mikumi National part was 6 hour long. I was at the back of the car and got all the time to sleep and enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of Africa whilst on the road that links Tanzania to Zambia.

We stopped at Morogoro for a quick breakfast at 11ish and arrived at the park at 2pm, where I was taken to a cottage for lunch.

My guide, Nova, was absolutely lovely. Young chap, very smart and knowledgeable. Him and Johnny had that connection that made the trip even more fun. I was taken to the game drive at 3 pm and here it started!

Nova explained that it was a “game”drive and that I may or may not see all the animals. However, I was in luck that day: after seeing hundreds of impalas, we came across zebras, giraffes, buffalos and ONE lion. I was so excited to take all these pictures (make sure you carry a professional camera, and not a phone).

I was driven to my hotel at 6pm, had food and passed out. The hotel was cute but the window had stayed open all day long and I came across 5 cockroaches around the bed. The next morning, I had breakfast over there and mentioned the cockroach incident to Nova and John who picked me up at 6:30am. Nova immediately spoke to the receptionist who arranged for a cockroach-free room to be given to me that same evening.

We headed to the safari and got there at 7 am ish. All the animals we missed the day before were there and i got to take amazing pictures of them: lions, elephants, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, buffalos... it was a dream
Come true! We even got really close to a lion and a lioness, and witnessed a lazy intimidating attempt of the lion wishing to get closer to a group of zebras.

After lunch that day, and after having seen every animal I wanted to see, I asked Nova whether we could visit the Masai tribe. Both him and the driver were quite flexible, I was taken to the cash point and withdraw about $70, and off we were. The visit of the Masai camp is possibly one of my best memories ever. Seeing all these kids, and mummies showing me around, playing with me, dancing and singing for me, taking pictures and videos and spending time with me was extremely emotional. I wish I had taken toys or stationery along with me. The mums offered to dress me as a Masai woman and gave me all the jewellery accessories so I can fit right in.
We stayed with them for just under two hours and I was driven back to the hotel whilst trying to realise what I had just had the chance to see and live.

I headed to my new hotel room which was much better and said bye to Nova. I had dinner there and was driven back to Dar airport the next day at 6:30 am. We stopped at Morogoro again for a juice and toilet and picked Faustin up on our way to the airport.

Once at the airport, Faustin directed me to the correct check in counter and showed me where I could grab lunch before my flight. I said bye to both him and Johnny and left.

My flight to Zanzibar was delayed by 3 hours, I was in touch with Faustin who was able to alert the driver that was supposed to pick me up from Zanzibar airport and drive me to my Makundunchi hotel.
Once I landed, the driver was waiting for me and we headed Back to the hotel.

As previously stated, this safari really is one of the best thing I have experienced in life. Very well done to Faustin for making a dream come true by providing a painless, smooth, professional and top quality customer service. I would recommend Faustin tours to anyone wishing to go on a game drive :).

Nova, Johnny, and Faustin: thank you for everything!

Be very careful with this operator
1/5

I was very disappointed with this operator. They demanded payment upfront but then changed the dates of my trip. They lied about there being a 'group' I would climb with (there was no group) and provided unprofessional guides who didn't provide a briefing nor walk with me. I ended up climbing Mt Kilimanjaro on my own. It was an overall traumatic experience. I emailed and phoned the operator MANY times and they denied a problem. This company is not to be trusted. When I got back to Arusha, I was notified by the Tourist Authority that this company is not endorsed due to their poor record.

Great 3-day Safari
5/5

I went on a 3-day tour with other 6 people I didn't know before the tour. I hoped the people on this tour would have the same intentions as me and I was right, we all got along really well. Our driver, Edward, was very good at spotting animals and at communicating with other drivers to find out where animals where at. He would also get very close to the animals and stay there for enough time for us to enjoy the scenery and take good photos. The second day, Edward recommended us to go to lake Naivasaha instead of doing a quick morning safari ride, and so we did. It was an enjoyable 1-hour boat ride that allowed us to see plenty of animals (from hippos to zebras to many birds) . The accommodation in tents was decent, and food was good and plenty.
Lennox was great at communicating with me before the trip, and his timely responses were great for planning the trip. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful Kenyan experience!
5/5

Peter’s did a wonderful job from start to finish to make our first trip to Africa as smooth and unforgettable as possible. Right away during my inquiry, Peter’s professional communication stood out among others. He answered all questions and concerns and made thoughtful suggestions. We thought the proposed itinerary was perfect, as everyday was better than the day before for the standpoint of what we saw and experienced. We met other tourists who went to Maisa Mara NP (the best of the best)in the beginning and it seemed nothing interested them to the same level in their safari afterwards. Our driver was John l, who I now wouldn’t want anyone else. We were always the first vehicle on the chase for any major animal sighting. I think he had a network of other drivers who all share info on where the animals can be spotted. We were always confused how he knew where certain animals were located. He was capable of answering questions we had about the local people to the cultures to the economy to animals. He also introduced us to great amount of non tourist areas. The only suggestion I could make is that the agency should inform the guests about the rough driving conditions. The travel time given on our itinerary were under estimated by 2-3 hrs at times. Even though it goes without speaking for Africa, a good portion of roads were more of a roller coaster ride that takes a toll on your body and energy. And should be taken into consideration for people in different conditions during their planning. Also, some advice on the souvenir markets would help. We were constantly approached by sellers throughout the trip and never knew the etiquette or fair price of negotiation. Either way, I have no complaint about Peter’s company. I highly recommend his service.

Mount Kilimanjaro trek with Jerry Tanzania Tours
5/5

My friend and I summited Kilimanjaro via eight-days Lemosho/Northern Circuit route with Jerry Tanzania Tours. I strongly recommend this route as it was quiet route that lets you get close to a remote, serene mountain beauty that I didn't expect to encounter climbing such a popular mountain. They provided our excellent guides, Mremi and Robert, an extraordinary cook who kept us well fed with delicious meals, and a great support staff of camp helpers and porters who worked so hard all week to keep us going and we trusted the entire team throughout our trip. We were well acclimatized by summit night and had no issues at all with mountain sickness. The climb was tough, but the descent, for me, was the really hard part. Sore knees and toes kept us from going all the way to Mweka camp for our final night, but after a restful night at Millennium camp, we were ready to hike out the next day. We highly recommend this company to anyone.
