Your entry point to the country will most likely be Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), 15km/9mi southeast of the capital city Nairobi.
Saiwa Swamp National Park is located about 400km/248mi northwest of Nairobi; allow at least 8 hours* for the drive. The closest large town is Kitale, 25km/15mi to the southwest. The small Kitale Airport (KIT) lies another 8km/5mi southwest of town.
Most people who visit Saiwa Swamp do so as part of an extended safari to western Kenya. Other popular destinations here include Kakamega Forest, which lies about 150km/93mi (4 hours’ drive*) to the south of Saiwa Swamp, or Mount Elgon National Park, 55km/34mi (up to 1½ hours*) to the west.
