The best times to explore Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve are the two Dry seasons and the months that immediately follow them, from December to March and June to August. During the height of the Wet season, in the months from April to May and September to November, the terrain can become very muddy and it is easy to get stuck. At this time of year, game drives may be restricted to the main road through the reserve. This can still be rewarding but limits what you can see.

Toro-Semliki Safaris
Best Time December to March and June to August (Dry and early Wet seasons)
High Season June to September (More people visit Uganda since it is the peak time for gorilla trekking)
Low Season March to May and October to November (Some camps and lodges in Uganda close)
Best Weather Mid-December to February (Less rainfall)
Worst Weather Mid-March to May and mid-August to November (High rainfall; roads can become impassable)

December to February & June to July Dry Seasons

  • Vegetation thins and animals gather near water, making them easier to spot
  • Chimpanzee trekking is less difficult due to drier trails
  • There is plenty of sunshine
  • The amazing views are hindered by the haze

March to May & August to November Wet Seasons

  • Lush, green landscapes
  • The best time for birding is March
  • Migratory birds can be seen from November to April
  • Some tracks become impassable and walking trails get slippery after heavy rains
  • It might drizzle for days and afternoon thunderstorms should be expected
