Masai Mara Honeymoon Safaris
If you’re looking for a romantic safari destination, the Masai Mara is one of the best places you can go on a honeymoon safari. There are endless possibilities when it comes to the kind of safari experience you can have here, but tour operators and accommodation places have lots of experience in organizing honeymoon packages and know just how to make your trip a special one. There’s both the Masai Mara National Reserve and the Maasai-run conservancies that surround the main reserve to choose from, and both can be excellent options. The Masai Mara is one of the best wildlife destinations anywhere in Africa, and a honeymoon here will be the trip of a lifetime.

5 Questions About Masai Mara Honeymoon Safaris
Are there recommended activities for a Masai Mara honeymoon safari?
“There are many possible activities to enjoy on a Masai Mara honeymoon safari, and one of the most obvious is the guided game drive. This is the centerpiece of so many safaris here in the Masai Mara and elsewhere. It involves you being taken out to look for animals in the early morning and late afternoon (when the animals are at their most active and easiest to see) by a guide and driver, probably in an open-sided safari vehicle. If you’re willing to pay a little extra, consider going for a more intimate private safari, where you’ll have the guide, driver and vehicle all to yourself. Other possible activities include a hot-air balloon safari and a walking safari (in the conservancies only, not in the national reserve). And for something a little more romantic, you can also enjoy a candlelit dinner for two or a bush breakfast where you’ll be waited on and served your meal in a pretty spot away from the camp.”
1What are the most romantic places in the Masai Mara?
“All of the Masai Mara works well for a honeymoon safari, and most operators offer tours that take you away from the crowds. This might involve special activities (like the private dinners or bush breakfasts), but it can also apply to the accommodation (a special honeymoon tent or suite, usually away from the other guests). Anywhere in the Mara will almost certainly feel more romantic if you’re on a private safari. But for perhaps a more intimate and more romantic overall experience, you may want to consider one of the community conservancies adjacent to the national reserve. That’s because many of these are exclusive operations with only a limited number of guests and very few other camps in the area. Where this is the case, it can feel as if you have this special corner of wild Africa all to yourself.”
2Can we extend our trip with a beach holiday?
“Yes, you can. And combining your trip to the Masai Mara with a beach holiday is not just possible. It’s also one of the best things you can do. By enjoying all the animals on safari and then soaking up the sun along Kenya’s beautiful Indian Ocean coastline, you’ll get to see some of the best that Kenya has to offer. Just be sure to make the arrangements well ahead of your trip, as both destinations can be booked out weeks or even months in advance. Just as in the Masai Mara, lots of Kenya’s beach hotels and resorts have plenty of experience in offering honeymoon packages. The same applies to the many tour operators who can arrange for you to enjoy both in a well-organized manner. Combining a Masai Mara safari with time at the beach usually involves flying between the two. This most often means traveling from one of the many bush airstrips in the Masai Mara in a small plane to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport, for a connecting flight to the coast. There may even be direct flights, although these are less common.”
3What kind of accommodation can I expect?
“The Masai Mara has accommodation to suit all budgets, and in the midrange and top-end price categories in particular there is very often special honeymoon accommodation. This usually means a special room (in a lodge) or safari tent (in a tented camp) with his-and-hers accessories, perhaps a welcome basket with sparkling wine, and very often a bathtub with a view. Some luxury places even have their own private plunge pool. Very often, these rooms or tents are larger than average, and are generally secluded or removed from other accommodation on the property. The Masai Mara has lodges, which usually mean sleeping in a four-walled room with mosquito net, en suite bathroom and varying degrees of comfort. There are many more tented camps, where you’ll sleep in a safari tent with its own bathroom, mosquito net and often a private terrace, writing desk, sofa and lots of space. Most lodges and tented camps have a dining, bar and lounge area, and some have a gift shop and swimming pool.”
4Will we have enough alone time on a honeymoon safari in the Masai Mara?
“On a Masai Mara honeymoon safari, there will be lots of opportunities to be alone. Obviously, the easiest way to make this happen is to pay for a private safari, where you won’t share the guide and vehicle with other travelers. While you won’t be entirely alone, you will feel very much as if this is your special safari. Your accommodation and safari operator will also make sure that you’re able to be alone wherever possible. This will include everything from private dinners and other meals to making sure that staff don’t disturb you between activities. Even if you’re on a group safari, you can arrange to have private dinners and other private activities. And even on a normal safari day, there is lots of time to relax and be alone, including the hours between the morning and afternoon game drives, and in the evening.”

Quintessential Kenyan safari destination, whatever the season
Grasslands dotted with graceful acacias, hundreds of big cats and enough natural drama to keep wildlife documentary film-makers busy year after year – the Masai Mara has it all. It also has some highly alluring and charismatic places to...

East Africa at its Exotic Best
Nowhere else sums up the East African dream like the Masai Mara. Always the best place in Kenya to see huge herds of grazers and a seemingly endless procession of carnivores big and small the Masai Mara is the one place in East Africa I...
This is an amazing park, but it has a few downsides. It's very busy, and a lot of the drivers don't show the animals much respect. We also felt very pressured by the masai people to buy over priced stuff. The wildlife is amazing though.
Fantastic experience with Daylight Adventure

Fantastic day and saw a lot of wildlife in a bit different habitat than Amboseli
The walk along side Mara River under the burning African sun, then you can realy feal the harsh conditions for the African animals
The largest park we have visited. We were here for 3 days and had a lodge close to the park, which was very pleasant and easy to do. The guides have contact with each other and therefore know where the predators are and can drive there....
