Nyerere National Park (Formerly Selous GR) is the largest National Park in Tanzania which covers the total area of 30,893 km2. The park was established in 1922 as a game reserve known as the Selous; before being gazetted as a National Park in 2019. The park was named in honor of the first President of Tanzania Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. The original name recognizes Frederick Selous, a British hunter who was killed by German soldier in 1917 during the First World War.
