The Masai Mara National Reserve is often simply called "the Mara" - a Maasai word meaning "mottled" - a reference to its patchy landscape. The terrain of the reserve is primarily grassland and riverine forest with clumps of distinctive acacia trees. The Mara ecosystem supports a high density of animals, including the Big Five throughout the year. It plays host to the annual migration, but whatever the time of year, resident wildlife will surely enthrall all who visit this wondrous park.
