From your hotel we tour the heartbeat of the gold reef, a sprawling "township" that led the children's uprising against apartheid in 1976, and that is world-famous for its culture, history and resistance. South-west of Johannesburg, the name is an acronym from SOuth WEstern TOwnships. Stopping at museums (if you wish) we visit a number of iconic sites, each with many stories, as David worked in Soweto for decades, facing teargas, crime, and brutal police, as he ducked and dived with activists.
