Mount Meru is located to the East of Arusha town Tanzania, about 20km drive from Arusha town and 70km west of Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano and it is the second highest mountain in Tanzania, and the fifth highest mountain in Africa. The mountain stands at an altitude of 4566 meters above sea level inside the Arusha National Park. Unlike Kilimanjaro when you are climbing the Meru you have to be escorted by an armed ranger as you pass through the Arusha National Park.
