Shaba is home to the Grevy's Zebra, the rare William's Lark, lions, leopards, cheetahs, the spotted and striped hyenas, bat-eared foxes, common genets, waterbuck, buffalo and the endangered wild dog. Its famous as the home of Joy Adamson, author of Born Free. Hippos and Nile crocodiles are found in the Ewaso Nyiro River.
