Nyerere National Park, formerly known as the Selous Game Reserve, is home to several elephants, lions, buffaloes, wild dogs, crocodiles, and hippopotamuses. The Rufiji River is also home to a large number of birds. The reserve was named after a well-known British figure. However, presently the Selous Game Reserve is known as Nyerere National Park.
