A quick visit with amazing experiences to friendly, beautiful Uganda
Overall rating
4/5

Only having 3 days to see as much as possible, I opted for 1 day of relaxing on the shore of Lake Victoria where I enjoyed the view, discovered a multitude of birds (I am a birder) and met very friendly people. The next day I puttered along the narrow channels of the Mabamba Swamps to try and find the elusive Shoebilled Stork. Sadly, it was not to be, but I saw so many other birds including a couple of lifers. This is a highly recommended outing. Yona from Shoebill Safaris then drove all the way to Budongo Forest in Murchison Nat. Park for me to go Chimpanzee tracking with a ranger. What a magic experience! After a long trek through the jungle we eventually found 28-30 chimps and got very close to one of them. Definitely an unforgettable experience but you must be fit. Before sunset we viewed the Murchison Falls and carried on to the Hornbill Lodge where I was treated like royalty. Very early the next morning I saw a pride of lions on a fresh cob kill, a leopard in the grass, many elephants, giraffes and buffalo as well as various antelopes and birds. By lunchtime I was on a cruise boat chugging along the Nile, stopping for lovely sightings of crocodiles, hippos, elephants and many birds. Late that evening due to the incredibly bad traffic conjestion I was back in Entebbe for my very early morning international flight.

I visited the western half of Uganda that is full of green and wonderful. Murchison and Queen Elizabeth National Parks provide the opportunity to meet lots of wild species, and In Bwindi Impenetrable Forest you can visit gorillas. The beauty of Bunyonyi lake is go beyond everything. The country is basically safe, the lodges are below European standards, but the surroundings and athmosphere make them unforgettable experiences. The Ugandan kitchen is really good with mainly pork, chicken, beef and fish dishes, and a lot of fruits (mainly water melon and ananas). While taking the long routes between national parks you can watch the villages, markets and people along the road.

First of all I have to thank you Karumuna Safaris for exciting time. We spent two weeks together. We visited Murchison Falls, chimpanzees, rhino sanctuary, gorillas, Bunyoni Lake. The operator even helped us with tickets in Kenya.
We felt safe, although there had adventures, malaria and repaired cars. Richard took care of everything! And we will remember this wonderful adventure forever!

My visit to Uganda was to fulfill my dream of Gorilla trekking. My travel was from Kampala to Bwindi forest by road. The roads itself are not the best as they are very bumpy but regular stops helps. We had amazing tour guides and we got to stop at various towns along the way. The equator line stop is lovely and a unique experience. The weather was quite humid and hot. Gorilla trekking experience at Bwindi forest was well-organised and experienced guides and trackers took good care of us and made sure we had an unforgettable experience. Our accommodations were really comfortable and all amenities were good. Visiting the Uganda lakes is a must. This beauty needs to be marketed more as I never expected to be so amazed by this experience. I was blown away by how kind and friendly the people are. So much patience and excellent hospitality. The food in Uganda is quite nice. More on the bland side though. I never felt unsafe at all in Uganda. Our tour operator was Montero Safaris and we did the 3-day gorilla trekking experience with them. I was very happy with their cost and what they delivered on.

You can't miss the gorilla trekking or the impressive Murchison National Park!!. The people are very friendly and usually help you. However, the food is not very varied.

Fun trip, great people, beautiful country, ride bodas at your own risk!

Peak Cruise Safaris was able to schedule my safari at late notice and did and excellent job.

Jen picked me up from the airport and Abdul was there early the next morning to begin the journey.

Abdul with Peak Cruise Safaris did an excellent job guiding the tour through Murchison Falls. In two short days we saw plenty of elephants and giraffe, and even spotted some hyena and a leopard. He also found some great spots to eat and get coffee on the way there and back. Try the offal!

Abdul has been doing this for over twenty years, and is very good at what he does, but be prepared for fast driving including through pedestrian areas. Winding through swarms of boda-bodas can be a shock for anyone not used to driving in congested cities in developing countries.

If you choose to ride the bodas they are fun and affordable but certainly a risky endeavor. Wild Coffee in Kampala is a fun place and apparently does slam poetry on Mondays. The zoo in Entebbe is a great spot to get up close to any animals you may have missed on Safari. (They even have tigers so you can tell people you saw a tiger in Africa).

Overall, Uganda and Peak Cruise Safaris is Highly recommended.
