Mfuwe Internatonal Airport to Tafika Camp

Mfuwe Internatonal Airport to Tafika Camp

Upon arrival at Mfuwe International Airport, you'll be met and transferred to Tafika Camp (a 2-hour drive). It is also possible to fly to Mwanya/Lukuzi airstrip (extra cost).

Tafika Camp is a seasonal luxury camp situated on the banks of the Luangwa River, on the border of the South Luangwa National Park, adjacent to the Nsefu Sector which is considered to be the most beautiful section of the park. With only six beautifully crafted reed and thatch chalets, Tafika is an intimate, remote eco-camp where you can shrug off all the cares of modern life and get back to nature. The food is excellent with fresh produce supplied from the camp's garden. With an abundance of wildlife and some of Zambia's most experienced guides, Tafika Camp will offer you a remote and unforgettable safari. You'll seldom see other vehicles while out on your game drives. The camp's safari vehicles accommodate no more than four guests, providing an intimate and exclusive safari experience.

Safari at Tafika Camp

You'll spend 3 nights at Tafika Camp. Tafika offers a range of safari activities, including game drives, walking safaris, cycling safaris (guided 1.5-hour mountain bike safari rides), night drives, and even microlight flights (extra cost).

A typical day at Tafika starts with an early morning breakfast on the banks of the Luangwa River around the campfire, before embarking on your morning game drive or walking safari with a stop for morning tea. You'll return to camp for a delicious buffet lunch.

After high tea, you'll embark on the afternoon game drive, with a stop for sundowner drinks and snacks. After dark, you will continue with a spotlight to see nocturnal animals in action. Alternatively, you can go on a guided mountain bike safari from 4:00 - 5:30 pm and then join the evening game drive. Another option is a cultural visit to a local village from 3:30 - 5:00 pm before joining the evening game drive. The day ends with a wonderful 3-course dinner served beneath the stars.

Day 4

Chikoko Trails - Walking Safaris

Chikoko Trails - Walking Safaris

Chikoko Tree Camp and Big Lagoon Camp are our two walking trail camps, across the river from Tafika Camp inside South Luangwa National Park. Getting to the camps is combined as part of a morning or afternoon game walk. Porters will carry your luggage so that all you need to carry is your camera and binoculars. These two small and exclusive bush camps in South Luangwa are known as the Tafika Trails (previously Chikoko Trails Camps). They offer the best and most authentic walking safari experience in the remote Luangwa Valley. Here, there are no roads, no vehicles, in fact: no other people!

You'll spend four nights at Tafika Trails, at either (or both) of the trail camps. Each camp sleeps a maximum of six people in spacious, natural chalets with en-suite, open-air facilities, including flush toilets and hot showers in the evenings. You'll be accompanied by an experienced walking guide, an armed scout, a chef, as well as general camp staff to ensure your comfort. The adventure begins!

Day 5-7

Chikoko Trails Walking Safaris

Chikoko Trails Walking Safaris

A typical day at camp starts early, before the heat of the day, by enjoying a long, leisurely walk in the morning (pace dictated by the group's wishes) with a halfway stop to brew up a welcome cup of tea or coffee with a snack. You'll return to camp mid-morning to relax, have lunch, and perhaps a snooze before heading out on a shorter afternoon walk, returning to camp by dusk. During your time at Tafika Trails, there are no game drives. Only walking safaris!

Encountering Africa's wildlife and prolific birdlife on foot provides a different safari experience. Our guides are some of the most experienced in the valley and our two trail camps, although simple, are perfectly comfortable.

This trip is for you if you're looking to get out and experience untamed Africa up close and personal, not just from the back of a safari vehicle. On foot, you get to savor the sights, smells, and sounds of the bush in a very authentic and intimate way. Unbeatable and unforgettable.
