Efficient, flexible, very professional
We are a group of four friends, and we've decided to visit Tanzania in July 2026. The most important part of the journey being a 4-days safari tour across the Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngoro Ngoro parks. The current geopolitical situation made the decision-making process rather difficult, especially when coming to select the right tour operator. Finally, we picked Makini Safari Tour, also thanks to a great contact point: Miss Ilham. She understood very well our stringent requirements, in terms of flexibility in down payments as well as regarding the overall tour organisation. She assigned us a very professional driver (given that the roads in the parks are often dirty and full of bunches, a good driver is a must!!), very good accommodations, etc etc. The final result was a marvelous safari journey. We strongly recommend Makini, and Ilham as an interface.
A true bucket list experience thanks to Laurence!
I’m a traveler who has been to 61 countries all around the world, and this safari in Tanzania was, arguably, one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. A huge part of it is thanks to Laurence. His determination, persistence, and ability to spot wildlife ensured that we saw not only all of the Big Five, but so much more.
I had three guides during my 5-day safari. Luca was nice and professional while Pascal was incredibly knowledgeable and patiently answered all my questions about the animals, geography, as well as the culture and politics of this beautiful country.
But it was Laurence who made this safari spectacular! On our first day in Serengeti, we saw an incredible pride of lions, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, elephants, hippos, a beautiful leopard, and all kinds of antelopes and birds. By the second day, the only animal we were still hoping to find was the cheetah. After hours of searching, we still hadn't seen one. While many guides might have given up, Laurence stayed completely focused. I could see him scanning the horizon while constantly communicating over the radio with other guides. One word I kept recognizing was "Wachini... Wachini...", which turned out to be the word for cheetahs. Thanks to Laurence's determination, with less than an hour left before we had to leave, he finally located a mother cheetah with four cubs napping under a tree. They were incredibly close to our jeep, and we were even able to take selfies with them through the roof of the vehicle! Just spectacular!
The next day in Ngorongoro, we encountered a similar situation. We had seen everything except rhinos. Once again, I could hear Laurence talking on the radio, and the one word I kept recognizing was "Pembe... Pembe...", which of course means rhino. Eventually, he received word that two rhinos had been seen far from our location. He gave us the choice of continuing with a relaxed game drive or making a determined effort to reach the rhinos before they disappeared. We all chose to go for it. Laurence quickly and expertly navigated the rough, unpaved roads, getting us to what felt like the other side of the crater, and just before the rhinos disappeared over the horizon, we were rewarded with the incredible sight of a rhino pair strolling along!
On a safari, a great guide can make all the difference. I truly believe we saw all the Big Five and more because of Laurence's exceptional wildlife spotting skills and his determination to help us find every animal we hoped to see. If you're planning a safari and want to maximize your chances of seeing the Big Five, I highly recommend requesting Laurence. His dedication, enthusiasm, and persistence made this a true bucket list experience!

Update to my 2 star review
After writing my review about how I was not happy with my contact person, since he was not reliable, Makini reached out to me and messaged me. They were very aware of what was wrong, apologized and even took action.
I would like to update my review, to say that i seemed to have bad luck with my contact person, but still the service from booking, to organisation, to the safari and the drivers were good! (As written in my previous review, I gave Makini drivers and the experience a 10/10.)
I appreciate them reaching out to me and being friendly, understanding and helpful!

The perfect Tanzanian safari experience!
We had an amazing 5-day / 4-night safari with Makini Safari and couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
We saw an incredible number of animals, and every game drive was unforgettable. Our guide, Bayona, was knowledgeable, attentive, and great company throughout the trip. He made sure we had the best possible experience and taught us so much about the wildlife.
We spent two nights in lodges and two nights camping at public campsites. The tents were new, clean, and comfortable, and one morning we even had zebras wandering through the campsite – such a special experience!
We highly recommend Makini Safari to anyone planning a safari in Tanzania!
Amazing Especially our Tour Guide Gifty
We did the 4 day camping safari and it was amazing. Our guide Gifty was very friendly, knowledgeable and took the extra effort to ensure we saw everything we could at the best angle. He was also great to have a laugh with! The tour itself was also great, the tents were comfy and sturdy and the food was delicious and in large quantities. Would definitely recommend if you are looking to see abundance of herd animals as well have the many big cats. We ended up seeing close to 30 lions and 3 leopards and even had a cheetah jump on top of our car.
