another excellent second tour
In September 2024 we traveled to Uganda for the third time. After having an excellent guide in 2023 with Davis Kibuga, he was our first choice again this year. We were again given a friendly welcome at the airport in Entebbe. Since we arrived late, we were taken to a lodge near the airport. His vehicle was again in excellent condition, it now had a cooler for drinks and a stable charging system. Davis had suggested a great idea of doing chimpanzee habituation. us excellent sighting luck. This time we got very close to the chimpanzees in Kibale NP. We were also very lucky with the "golden monkeys". We also discovered tree-climbing lions on a tree in the Ishasha sector. The chameleons near Bwindi NP were a completely new animal. All of our sighting dreams have come true. Davis is very flexible, he tries to fulfill all wishes. The accommodations were again of a very high comfortable and their food was delicious. We had a very eventful 12 days with him in Uganda. We felt very safe at all times. He is also and professional driver. We can highly recommend Davis Kibuga for your trip to Uganda or Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania. His English and knowledge of nature and wildlife is excellent.
Quality birding tour with knowledgeable and passionate professional birding and wildlife guides
My husband and I just finished a 15-day private birding tour in Kenya (Western Circuit) with Wide Birding Eco Tour. We had the pleasure of being guided by 2 marvelous bird guides, Davis Kibuga and James Apolloh Omenya. We birded in 8 National Parks/Reserves throughout southwestern Kenya and logged almost 400 bird species in addition to many mammals and reptiles. Our guides not only knew the birds, they also knew the mammals and plants. Apolloh, in particular, not only knew every bird along our routes by name, he also knew all the bird calls and where to find them. Many times we would stop at specific locations, sometimes along a highway, to call for a specific species and the bird would come. It was uncanny! To see our guides consult books and discuss about birds was fascinating. Their passion for birding was apparent and truly contagious.
Our trip was well organized from beginning to end. (Even before the trip, Davis was prompt in answering any question/concern we had so we felt very safe traveling with him.) Though the travel times between the National Parks/Reserves were long and the roads at times bumpy, we were not bored as we stopped along the way to log more species. At some birding sites, we were joined by a local birding guide who showed us the specialties at that site. We felt extra special as there were 3 guides for the two of us. Considered the superb guiding and mostly mid-range accommodations and food, we believe this budget-friendly tour was of very good value.
We were impressed not only by their knowledge and enthusiasm about birds and other wildlife but by the way our guides carried themselves. In addition to his work as a birding and wildlife guide, Davis also supports the children in the communities along the routes he travels as well as in his own community in Uganda. As his guests, we were given the opportunity to bring along used clothes and toys which we would distribute to children along our routes. Davis also uses these opportunities to educate the children about the importance of birds and conservation at these stops. In addition to the birds of Kenya, we have learned a great deal from our guides about the culture and life in East Africa. Thank you, Davis and Apolloh, for a well-planned and rewarding trip. We look forward to returning one day to bird in Uganda and Eastern Kenya with you again.
Very good, very knowledgeable, well organised
I have just finished a 16 day private tour birding in Uganda with Wide Birding Eco Tours with guide Alex Gabiito. Alex has been a bird guide for 15 years and knew where to find all the birds. I saw 416 bird species in total as well as other fascinating wild life including gorillas and Tree Lions. Seeing Murchisson Falls was also a non-birding highlight for me. The trip was well organised, with local site guides included in many locations together with boat trips. I was paying for the more basic accommodation but it seemed more like mid range standard to me and I had no complaints with it. The food was better than I had anticipated. Uganda is a beautiful country, has abundant wildlife and lacks the tourist crowds of other countries like Kenya, Botswana and South Africa. This leads to a more personal experience. Also, due to it's prescence on a a plateau, the climate of the country is very pleasant and comfortable unlike other 'hot' climate countries.
Davis made my Uganda trip seamless and enjoyable, with excellent knowledge of the animal kingdom.
I had the pleasure of traveling through Uganda with Davis as my guide, and the experience was truly exceptional. From the beginning, he was incredibly kind and understanding, especially when I decided to change accommodations - he made the transition seamless and stress-free.
I was thoroughly impressed by Davis's extensive knowledge of the animal kingdom, particularly his expertise as a certified bird guide. Although I am personally not particularly interested in birds, he actually made me curious about them. For anyone passionate about birdwatching, Davis is definitely the guide you want by your side.
What I appreciated most was Davis's positive, calm, and friendly demeanor. He has a way of making you feel comfortable and at ease throughout the trip while also respecting your need for personal space. His organizational skills were also top-notch, ensuring that every aspect of the journey was well-coordinated and enjoyable.
For anyone traveling to Uganda (especially if you have an interest in birdwatching) I highly recommend Davis. His professionalism, knowledge, and warm personality make him an outstanding guide.
Excellent and Resourceful Guide.
East Africa (Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya) Trip Report: June 17th thru July 7th 2024
I arrived in Kigali, Rwanda in the afternoon, and was picked up by Davis at the airport. We went to the boutique hotel I was staying at, and I was able to rest up for the start of the trip, the next day. I am a 75 year old photographer in good shape for my age, specializing in birds, so I require more time with the birds to get my shots. My main target for this trip was the Shoebill Stork, as well as other colorful/interesting looking birds. Davis had secured a regional guides for Rwanda and Kenya, as well as local guides for all three countries. He really thought of everything, including an endless supply of bottled water and a cooler for cold drinks. I had requested "budget" lodging, since I wouldn't be spending much time inside. All of the lodges/hotels were clean and comfortable. I had researched Davis before committing to him for this trip, and found he was one of the top eBird contributors in Uganda. I was not disappointed. He found so many birds that I never would have seen on my own, and was continually finding me new positions as the birds would move. The sign of a excellent birding guide. He also maintained a list of just the birds I photographed, since I'm not a "birder", who counts sightings as well. Along the way, we took boat trips, game drives, and many hikes. He is very flexible in making sure the activities are not more than you can handle. I have had private guides all over the world, and Davis is at the top of my list! Thanks to him, I had a great three week safari.
