Thank you Safarihub!
5/5

We had an incredible time! Tanzania is an unbelievably beautiful place! The landscape and surroundings of the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti are just mesmerizing! The guide was professional and knew the whereabouts of the animals in all the parks. During our Safari we were lucky enough to see the famous wildebeest migration and to top it all a live cheetah kill, absolutely surreal experience.

We just returned from an absolutely amazing Safari. Just wanted to let you know that we really loved the trip and especially loved Serengeti and the Ngorongoro crater, we now understand why it’s known as the 7th wonder of the natural world! The accommodation we stayed in was comfortable and we felt very well looked after. Thank you so much for a great service and we will definitely be back!

The most memorable wildlife experience of our lives!
Overall rating
5/5

We went to Tsavo when we were on our honeymoon, this is the first time we have done a safari and certainly will not be the last! We did two game drives a day, morning and afternoon, in between we were back at the lodges for our meals, all the food was beautiful, rooms to a high standard, staff very friendly and helpful, all the drives were very well organised, our driver was very knowledgeable about the wildlife and great fun to be with. I would recommend a safari for adults and grown up children only as the game drives are around 2-3 hours long with a lot of driving in between lodges etc. and young children perhaps wouldn't have the patience or be able to stay quiet around the animals. Overall it was the best holiday we have ever had, we saw all the big 5, made some wonderful friends and memories to last a lifetime and we will definately return one day!

Fabulous vacation; wonderful adventure
5/5

This was my favorite trip to date along with Tibet, which was also fabulous for different experiences. The entire trip was wonderful. Mark, with Odyssey Safaris, was great to work with. He was always easy to reach and so helpful with setting up our tour and answering questions. Could not have asked for anyone better. The trip to Kenya was outstanding even though the flights from the USA to Kenya were long. Everything flowed smoothly from the time we were met at the airport in Nairobi to the time we departed Nairobi. We felt safe the entire time. The lodges/tented camps were amazing with great meals and wonderful service. The people were all so friendly. Erastus, our guide and driver, was the best. We were four gals on an 8 day private safari and he had a great sense of humor and made the trip a lot of fun. He also had a great eye for spotting animals and thus we saw different animals & birds on each of our game drives. We saw 4 of the big 5; missed our leopard by 2 minutes but saw a cheetah! All other animals you would hope to see were everywhere in their glory! I would recommend everyone check out Odyssey Safaris if you are looking for a wonderful tour with easy and great planning, scheduling, lodging, meals, service, amazing game drives and an overall amazing experience.

Mahale is a unique safari destination
Overall rating
4/5

There are no driving safaris in Mahale. You are on lake Tanganyika on one end and a very dense forest on the other. Viewing the chimps requires hiking to find them. Some of the hikes can be difficult, so you should be in good enough physical condition for the hiking. You cannot hike deeply within the park without a park ranger and guide. When not hiking, you can sit on the beach, kayak, snorkel, bird, and or relax.
Tanganyika is famous for its chiclids, so grab mask and snorkel and see them! The water is nice and calm.
Other than the Chimps, there are not a lot of large mammals to be seen. There are other monkeys in the forest and you may see an occasional hippo in the water, but that's about it. If you want to see the big 5, this is not the place. You can combine Mahale with another park to see the big 5 and to make a more complete Safari experience. For chimps in the wild, Mahale is amazing.

Evening at Phinda
Overall rating
4/5

We did a late afternoon/evening visit to Phinda while on a cruise that spent 2 nights in Richards Bay.

We arrived at Phinda about 3 PM and went directy to the drive. We saw lots of giraffes, zebras and impala in addition to the cheetahs, water buffalo, elephants and nyala.

Without a doubt the highlight of the drive was when we came across two cheetahs eating a freshly killed impala. Our vehicle got to within a few feet of the cheetah and we stayed for half an hour watching them each, pull at the carcass, look nervously about and then return to eating. We could hear them breaking bones and smell the carcass. It was an unbelievable experience that according to our guide and others we met later a true rarity – many people go on numerous safaris and never see big cats eating a fresh kill.

When we left the cats we saw a very sad scene that reminded us of the wildness of the real animal kingdom. We came across a dead baby giraffe with its umbilical cord still attached. Our guide looked at it closely but could not determine what had killed it. There were no bite marks but he theorized it could have been a snake bite or just some birth problem. Another possibility was that it could just have fallen over. A little known fact, at least to us, was that if a giraffe falls over it cannot get up. They sleep on their knees.

When my wife asked what they would do with the giraffe the guide said they would leave it here and it would be eaten by the only two animals that would eat an animal they did not kill – vultures and hyenas.

Following our drive we went to the Mountain Lodge which was used for part of the filming of Out of Africa in 2008. We had an excellent buffet dinner that actually included grilled Impala which was very tender and at least I thought was good enough for seconds.

Following dinner we were treated to a slightly touristy Zulu dance presentation and headed back to the ship arriving at approximately 10:30.

We loved our experience at Phinda!!

Communication: there was some lack of detailed information prior to the safari.
Service: I appreciated how you tried to follow our special wishes concerning lodges.
I very much appreciated your friendliness in the e-mail communications.
I also appreciated the clarity in the financial matters.
The safari tour itself was exceeding our expectation.

Fantastic Okavango-style wilderness with fewer tourists
Overall rating
5/5

I visited Mudumu NP several times between August-September in 2002 as part of a larger self-drive safari through Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. We found Mudumu to be relatively small but with many rewards in terms of scenery, large numbers of Elephant, good viewings of small groups of other game (Kudu, Buffalo, Baboons etc) and excellent bird watching. A huge plus for our group was that there were relatively few tourists – meaning the park could be explored in a leisurely fashion. The landscape is certainly very Okavango-like with numerous small waterways and the beautiful Kwando River, as well as many vegetated anthills. At the time we visited the road network into the northern section of the park was poorly-developed. This wasn’t a major problem as most of the action was along the river. The weather was perfect for safaris in July-August. One discomfort was the presence of tsetse fly in parts of the park. Overall, a very rewarding place to visit if you are prepared to go a little off the track.
